My blog focuses a lot on affordable fashion and beauty but I believe that there are items that are worth the splurge. I’ve read before that a women’s wardrobe should be made up of 80% affordable fast-fashion and 20% investment pieces that you will have for years. So what are the pieces that I think are worth the splurge?
#1 – A Classic Designer Handbag
I buy trendy bags at Zara, Mango, and Sole Society, but I do love my Louis Vuitton. I’ve had it for about five years now and love it as much as I did on the day I bought it. They will never go out of style so although they are expensive they are an investment. You can get great deals on gently used ones at consignment stores, Poshmark, and Ebay.
Louis Vuitton ($1,780)
#2 – Cashmere Sweater
A classic cashmere sweater is timeless and classy. The Halogen brand at Nordstrom makes great ones for a decent price.
#3 – Leather Riding Boots
Leather riding boots will always be in style. It’s best to invest in a real leather pair with a slight heel and in a cognac brown color. It looks better if there is no gaping between the boot and your leg. Vince Camuto, Frye, and Aquatalia all make great boots. Here is a very classic pair of Sam Edelman Penny boots that is a great seller and also comes in wide calf.
#4 – Black Leather Motorcycle Jacket
These never go out of style and are a must have in every women’s wardrobe. Being that this is something you can always have, you should invest in a quality piece. All Saints make beautiful leather jackets and you can find some great ones at their outlets. Outlets and Nordstrom Rack are great places to find quality leather jackets at good prices. Here is a beautiful classic leather moto jacket that can be worn with everything from dresses to jeans.
Nordstrom (on sale for $230)
#5 – Aviator Sunglasses
I have a drawer full of fun trendy sunglasses but everyone needs a quality pair of aviator sunglasses. Ray Ban and Quay make great ones but I think the Kate Spade ones fit great, look expensive, and will last you years to come as they are very classic.
A rule to use when deciding if something is worth the splurge is to calculate your cost per wear. The more you will wear something the more you can invest in it. The trendy pieces that might only last a season are the things to save on.
I hope this post helped you think about how you spend your clothing budget. I’ve really changed how I look at what I spend. I want to have a great wardrobe but I also want to be more thoughtful about how I spend my money so I can have the money to go out to fun places and wear my fabulous clothes. XOXO Michelle
Old Navy has a ton of stylish and affordable fall coats. They have all of the biggest trends in coats covered so you can be on trend without breaking the bank. These coats are not only stylish and affordable, they are also good quality. The only problem you will have is choosing which ones to buy. These are my favorites:
Leopard Print Cardi-Coat (On sale for $49) – this is a great fall coat in a very on trend leopard print. It comes in tall and petite and up to XXL. It also comes in four other prints.
Textured Boucle’ Everyday Coat ($65) – I bought a similar one at the Nordstrom anniversary sale and can’t wait to wear it. This is a great everyday coat at a great price point.
Trench Coat ($54 Sale Price) – every women needs a good fitting trench coat in their wardrobe. It is easy to find your perfect size because once again this comes in tall and petite and up to XXL.
Sherpa Bomber Jacket (On sale for $44) – Sherpa and Bomber Jackets are two huge trends in outerwear. This is a very affordable and cute way to wear this trend.
I love Old Navy denim as well and I wanted to share some of their most on trend pairs.
Mid-Rise Raw-Hem Rockstar Ankle Jeans ($35)
Mid-Rise Raw-Hem Rockstar Ankle Jeans ($35) – I own both of these jeans and I love them. If you are between sizes – size down.
Mid-Rise Flare Ankle Cords ($40) – I think these are so current and cool. I’m buying these and can’t wait to wear these with a gray sweater and some leopard booties.
You can have a great on trend wardrobe without busting your budget. The key is knowing what to splurge on and what to save on. Next week I’m going to discuss the few things that I think are worth splurging on. XOXO Michelle
Target or Targe’ as I like to call it has really been upping it’s fashion game. It’s newest fashion line is called “A New Day.” This is a collection of chic basics and statement pieces that are meant to be mixed and matched. I think it is especially good for women who need to dress up for work. Here are some of my favorite pieces:
Skirt ($25) – you can wear this with black tights when it gets cooler
T-shirt ($10) – this is a great staple to have in your fall wardrobe. It looks great with the skirt above and the below pants.
Pants ($25) – these pants can be dressed up or down depending upon what top and shoes you pair them with
Top ($20) – this top looks great with the above pants, a red heel, and the shirt buttoned up with this bow choker
Pants ($28) – these are great pants to have in your closet. They look great with everything depending on the occasion.
Blazer ($35) – as I mentioned in a previous post, “Prince of Wales Plaid” is a huge trend for fall
Cami ($18) – this looks great under the blazer and could also be worn under a cardigan
Dress ($28) – this dress is so cute and like everything in the “A New Day” collection can be dressed up or down and worn in different ways. I would wear this with sneakers, booties or tall boots. I would also wear this with skinny jeans.
I really like the “A New Day” collection at Target. I appreciate how everything can be mixed and matched. It’s a great way to have an on-trend wardrobe at an affordable price. It really is a new day at Target. XOXO Michelle
