Fall Accessory Trends to Update Your Fall Wardrobe

Fall Accessory Trends

Hey friends – I am back now that my new website theme is installed.  Hope you like the new look as much as I do.  Today I am going to be showing you how adding some fall accessories trends into your wardrobe is a great way to refresh the existing clothes in your wardrobe to make them feel new.  Here are some of my favorites:

Statement Earrings

Statement earrings are a simple and surefire way to instantly transform a look without breaking the bank.  The biggest trends are thick gold hoops, tassels, ball drops, and crystal drops.  Links to some of the ones I like the most are below.

ball drop earrings

crystal drop earrings

Necklaces

There are many trendy necklaces out there right now but you want to make sure that the necklace style is right for your body.  If you have a short neck you should avoid short chunky necklaces as they may make your neck look shorter.  Women with large chests sometimes look bustier in long bulky pendant necklaces.  To get the most out of the hot necklaces for fall, try a few from the trends listed below and see how having these items will change up what you already own.

Layered Necklaces – the layers can fill in a more open neckline and add plenty of dimension to an outfit.

Nordstrom ($38)

Chokers – these were big in the 90’s and with the resurgence of this decade in fashion, they are back.  If you have a shorter neck, choose finer ones that don’t take up too much space.

Nordstrom ($55)

Pendants – great for casual wear and also look great when worn with a basic black dress.

Kendra Scott pendant

Nordstrom ($75) – every woman needs this necklace in their wardrobe

Ann Taylor pendantAnn Taylor ($30) – I love this necklace – it’s so cool

Statement Necklace – add striking style to any outfit and call attention to the face.

statement necklace

Target ($30) – this would look great with blush pink or gray

pearl statement necklace

Loft ($55) – pearls are very big this season and I love that these are in shades of black and gray

Patterned Tights

Black tights are perennially chic and practical.  But when you add a pattern to them they modernize and update your outfit.

Berets and Baker Boy Caps

If you don’t already own a beret or a baker boy cap, you are going to want to get your hands on one ASAP.  A lot of celebrities have been spotted wearing these stylish headpieces taking their outfits to the next level.

Five Fashion Items Worth the Splurge

My blog focuses a lot on affordable fashion and beauty but I believe that there are items that are worth the splurge.  I’ve read before that a women’s wardrobe should be made up of 80% affordable fast-fashion and 20% investment pieces that you will have for years.  So what are the pieces that I think are worth the splurge?

#1 – A Classic Designer Handbag

I buy trendy bags at Zara, Mango, and Sole Society, but I do love my Louis Vuitton.  I’ve had it for about five years now and love it as much as I did on the day I bought it.  They will never go out of style so although they are expensive they are an investment.  You can get great deals on gently used ones at consignment stores, Poshmark, and Ebay.

#2 – Cashmere Sweater

A classic cashmere sweater is timeless and classy.  The Halogen brand at Nordstrom makes great ones for a decent price.

Nordstrom ($89)

#3 – Leather Riding Boots

Leather riding boots will always be in style.  It’s best to invest in a real leather pair with a slight heel and in a cognac brown color.  It looks better if there is no gaping between the boot and your leg.  Vince Camuto, Frye, and Aquatalia all make great boots.  Here is a very classic pair of Sam Edelman Penny boots that is a great seller and also comes in wide calf.

Zappos ($150)

#4 – Black Leather Motorcycle Jacket

These never go out of style and are a must have in every women’s wardrobe.  Being that this is something you can always have, you should invest in a quality piece.  All Saints make beautiful leather jackets and you can find some great ones at their outlets.  Outlets and Nordstrom Rack are great places to find quality leather jackets at good prices.  Here is a beautiful classic leather moto jacket that can be worn with everything from dresses to jeans.

#5 – Aviator Sunglasses

I have a drawer full of fun trendy sunglasses but everyone needs a quality pair of aviator sunglasses.  Ray Ban and Quay make great ones but I think the Kate Spade ones fit great, look expensive, and will last you years to come as they are very classic.

Nordstrom ($160)

A rule to use when deciding if something is worth the splurge is to calculate your cost per wear.  The more you will wear something the more you can invest in it.  The trendy pieces that might only last a season are the things to save on.

I hope this post helped you think about how you spend your clothing budget.  I’ve really changed how I look at what I spend.  I want to have a great wardrobe but I also want to be more thoughtful about how I spend my money so I can have the money to go out to fun places and wear my fabulous clothes.  XOXO Michelle

Stylish and Affordable Fall Coats

Old Navy has a ton of stylish and affordable fall coats.  They have all of the biggest trends in coats covered so you can be on trend without breaking the bank.  These coats are not only stylish and affordable, they are also good quality.  The only problem you will have is choosing which ones to buy.  These are my favorites:

affordable fall coats

Leopard Print Cardi-Coat (On sale for $49) – this is a great fall coat in a very on trend leopard print.  It comes in tall and petite and up to XXL.  It also comes in four other prints.

old navy boucle coat

Textured Boucle’ Everyday Coat ($65) – I bought a similar one at the Nordstrom anniversary sale and can’t wait to wear it.  This is a great everyday coat at a great price point.

old navy trench coat

Trench Coat ($54 Sale Price) – every women needs a good fitting trench coat in their wardrobe.  It is easy to find your perfect size because once again this comes in tall and petite and up to XXL.

sherpa bomber jacket

Sherpa Bomber Jacket (On sale for $44) – Sherpa and Bomber Jackets are two huge trends in outerwear.  This is a very affordable and cute way to wear this trend.

I love Old Navy denim as well and I wanted to share some of their most on trend pairs.

old navy raw hem rockstar jeans

Mid-Rise Raw-Hem Rockstar Ankle Jeans ($35)

raw hem rockstar jeans

Mid-Rise Raw-Hem Rockstar Ankle Jeans ($35) – I own both of these jeans and I love them.  If you are between sizes – size down.

old navy flare ankle cords

Mid-Rise Flare Ankle Cords ($40) – I think these are so current and cool.  I’m buying these and can’t wait to wear these with a gray sweater and some leopard booties.

You can have a great on trend wardrobe without busting your budget.  The key is knowing what to splurge on and what to save on.  Next week I’m going to discuss the few things that I think are worth splurging on.  XOXO Michelle

It’s “A New Day” at Target

A New Day

Target or Targe’ as I like to call it has really been upping it’s fashion game.  It’s newest fashion line is called “A New Day.”  This is a collection of chic basics and statement pieces that are meant to be mixed and matched.  I think it is especially good for women who need to dress up for work.  Here are some of my favorite pieces:

A New Day skirt

Skirt ($25) – you can wear this with black tights when it gets cooler

a new day tee shirt

T-shirt ($10) – this is a great staple to have in your fall wardrobe.  It looks great with the skirt above and the below pants.

a new day track pants

Pants ($25) – these pants can be dressed up or down depending upon what top and shoes you pair them with

a new day shirt

Top ($20) – this top looks great with the above pants, a red heel, and the shirt buttoned up with this bow choker

Sugar Fix choker

Choker ($15)

A New Day pants

Pants ($28) – these are great pants to have in your closet.  They look great with everything depending on the occasion.

A New Day blazer

Blazer ($35) – as I mentioned in a previous post, “Prince of Wales Plaid” is a huge trend for fall

a new day camisole

Cami ($18) – this looks great under the blazer and could also be worn under a cardigan

A New Day dress

Dress ($28) – this dress is so cute and like everything in the “A New Day” collection can be dressed up or down and worn in different ways.  I would wear this with sneakers, booties or tall boots.  I would also wear this with skinny jeans.

I really like the “A New Day” collection at Target.  I appreciate how everything can be mixed and matched.  It’s a great way to have an on-trend wardrobe at an affordable price.  It really is a new day at Target.  XOXO Michelle

Zaful Wish List: White Crop Tops

I recently discovered the website Zaful and was blown away by their large selection of apparel and accessories for women at such a reasonable price point!  Style and affordability?!  They speak my language!

White crop tops are a big trend this fall.  When I say crop top, I don’t mean the belly baring kind but the ones that hit at the top of your high rise jeans.

Even though it’s almost fall, we still have time to wear rompers.  Here are some great ones to try:

How To Wear The 2017 Fall Trends Without Them Wearing You

2017 Fall Trends

Every season new trends emerge.  I really love some of the 2017 fall trends and I think they can be easily integrated into your wardrobe.  You want to pick pieces that are on trend but also are true to your style.  You want to wear the new fall trends without them wearing you.

Red/Burgundy

This is the biggest 2017 fall trend.  They showed head to toe red outfits on the runway.  I think it’s more wearable, less trendy, and more unexpected to wear a red shoe instead.  Wearing a red shoe (especially boots) will give your outfit a pop of color and make you on-trend.

red booties

Journey Bootie – DSW ($50) – these boots are a beautiful bright shade of red and at a great price.

Velvet

Velvet was shown on all the runways and in all of the magazines for the fall.  Once again I recommend wearing the trend in small unexpected ways like a velvet cami under a long cardigan.  A velvet scarf is a great third piece option.

velvet scarf

American Eagle ($6)

velvet cross body bag

Glamorous Velvet Cross Body Bag – ASOS ($42) – a velvet bag is also a great way to wear the trend.  This one comes in the color of the season and looks more expensive than what it is.  It is a perfect going out bag.

Shearling

Shearling is a huge trend for fall.  I love this shearling coat and the great price.

Nordstrom Rack ($70)

Vintage Inspired Faux Fur

A faux fur coat is so fun to wear for a night out.  A vintage inspired style is the one to try this fall.

faux fur coat

Kristin Blake Faux Fur Jacket – Nordstrom ($240)

Tularosa Faux Fur Coat – Nordstrom Rack ($90)

Plaid

Plaid is always big for the fall.  This season they are showing what’s called “Prince of Wales Plaid.”  I think it’s a really fresh look for the new season.

plaid blazer

Oversized Plaid Blazer – Express ($168) – this is a great piece for your fall wardrobe because it can be dressed up for work or worn with a t-shirt and jeans.

Sheer

Sheer tops are all over the stores this fall.  You’ll see tops that are completely sheer or that have sheer arms.  The completely sheer ones can be worn with a cami, bandeau, or pretty bralette underneath.

sheer blouse

Shein ($19)

2017 Fall Trends

Nordstrom ($75)

Bell sleeves, blush pink, off shoulder / cold shoulder tops, leather, slogan tees, athleisure, and white boots continue to be in style for the fall.  Wearing your t-shirt or sweater off the shoulder is an easy way of updating your existing clothes and look.  Never wear something just because it’s trendy.  Pick and choose the trends that you like and that compliment your style.  XOXO Michelle

The Power of the Third Piece Rule

  third piece rule

The third piece rule transforms your outfit and elevates your style.  Your pants and top are the first and second piece.  The third piece is an extra outfit element such as a blazer or a statement accessory.

Blazer / Vest / Cardigan / Jacket

These pieces elevate a basic t-shirt or blouse.

knit blazer

Old Navy ($40) – this burgundy knit blazer totally pulls this outfit together.  It could also be worn over a blouse for work.  I bought a similar version at the Nordstrom anniversary sale and love it.

faux suede vest

Nordstrom ($170) – this vest is pricey but I think it will instantly make an outfit look cooler and more put together.  It can be worn over a sweater, blouse, or tee.  I might have to put this one in the cart.

open front cardigan

Gap (on sale now for $49) – I love this cardigan.  The color is beautiful and it upgrades your outfit from a basic t-shirt and jeans.  Also going in the cart!

duster coat

Misguided ($60) – Duster coats can upgrade any outfit.  They can be worn with anything from jeans to dresses and make your look pulled together and fashionable.

Scarf / Wrap

Scarves add a pop of pizzaz to your outfit.

paisley scarf

Nordstrom ($29) – this scarf adds so much color to your face and interest to a plain white tee or blouse.

fringe wrap

Nordstrom ($39) – this can be worn as a wrap or a scarf.  The neutral color will go with so much and will look especially great with a cream sweater or long sleeve t-shirt and tall boots.

Bold Accessory

A bold accessory is something that draws your eye to it like a statement necklace or a bold cuff.

tassel pendant necklace

BaubleBar ($42) – I love this necklace.  It adds a lot of interest to your outfit and can be worn with a lot.

Vera cuff

Nordstrom ($78) – this cuff is so cool and different.  It will definitely draw the eye and add impact to your look.

Hat

A hat is another item that can add a ton of interest to your outfit.  Pairing a floppy hot with tall boots, especially OTK ones, is a great look.

floppy hat

Target ($25)

I hope this helped explain the third piece rule and inspires you to make amazing outfits.

At the bottom of this post you will find a link and banner for a new company that is like Stitch Fix called Le Tote.  Le Tote is a subscription box where members receive unlimited women’s apparel and accessories every month.  Members can wear everything for as long or as little as they want.  They can purchase what they love (but don’t have to) and send the rest back.  Le Tote will then ship a new box immediately.  So basically for $39/month you are renting clothes and when you want a new shipment you send them back to get different items.  You fill out a survey so they know your style and sizes.  For more information you can click on the banner below.

2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Haul

2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

I came, I saw, I shopped the 2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  I made a big order as soon as the sale opened Thursday morning.  Luckily it was right before the site crashed.  I might have been the reason for the crash – my bad.  Here is what I found on the front porch a couple days later:

I went to Nordstrom the next day with my friend to see some things in person and just have a fun girls day.  Seeing the items in person made me wish I would have ordered a few more things.  I did pick up some more things and am obsessed with a few more.  I already gave you my picks for the sale (see prior post).  This is my review of what I ordered, tried on, and saw at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.  Welcome to my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale haul.

Sweaters/Tops

BP cardigan

BP. Rib Stitch Cardigan ($32) – there are a lot of long cardigans in this sale but this is the least expensive.  It’s good quality for the price.  I got it in two colors and would size down.

BP. T-Strap Short Sleeve Tee ($15)

I think the 2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is awesome this year and hope you all find some great pieces – I sure did.  A lot of things are sold out in certain sizes and colors.  Nordstrom constantly re-stocks everything.  My advice if the color or size you want is out of stock is to save it to your wishlist in another color or size available.  Then check daily to see if your size and color is back in stock.  Don’t forget the sale is open to everyone starting this Friday.  XOXO Michelle
